Here’s what jumps into my mind when I think about being true to yourself —  beliefs, interests, personal values, honesty, sincerity, fundamental nature, being complete, relationship,  living by what is and what is not acceptable to you, morals, ethics, right and wrong, honor, not being false, truth…

The words feel good to me — positive, healthy, powerful, peaceful and happy.

So–being true to yourself for me means having the courage to accept myself as I really am, not as as someone else thinks I should be. Do not pretend or disguise to be someone else for the sake of gaining acceptance.

Nowadays, many youngsters believe that when they do things to please their peers, such as smoke or drink when they shouldn’t, or act or party in inappropriate ways, they will be be popular and welcomed. They go against the advice of their parents or their own common sense only to find themselves in trouble and not accomplishing what they plan to do.

When you do things that are not genuine or a reflection of the real you, you will not be happy with yourself and will end up confused. You’ll be confused because you won’t know whom to please, or how.

I used my personal growing experience to make the video in order to give advice on being the real you. As in every stage of my life, I do compromise on some issues in order to be an “obedient” child, a “normal” student and an “easy-going” friend. But now when I looking back, I felt ashamed of what I chose at that moment. I didn’t follow and respect my own choice. As only  you respect yourself, others will respect you. They will sense that you are strong and capable of standing up for yourself and your beliefs.

When you are true to yourself, you allow your individuality and uniqueness to shine through. You respect the opinions of others but do not conform to stereotypes or their expectations of you.

I love how author and spiritualist Don Miguel Ruiz describes it:

“Be impeccable with your word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean.
Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others.
Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.”don-Miguel-Ruiz_副本

But I knew Be True to Yourself  takes courage and demands you to be sincere, open-minded and introspective. Here’s my personal suggestions of How 2 B U:

  • Being true to yourself begins with knowing who you are and accepting your fundamental nature; knowing your strengths, interests, weaknesses and aims in life and then living that way all the time. You know yourself only by living true life. Finding what works for you, what defines you and makes you whole.
  • Being true to yourself means you don’t worry about making other people pleased; living under someone else’s expectations or rules. You don’t pay much attention to what people think of you. You live as your natural self. Without compromise. No one can tell you how to be true to yourself except you.

Being true to yourself is such simple-facing with your real identity no matter in the virtual Internet world or the real communication. You can optimize yourself but do not try to pretend a perfect guy. It’s not you and not lovely!CIMG2589_副本

Those who are most successful in life have dared to creatively express themselves, so from now on, throwing away your awful masks and being true to yourself!
